Converse County Employment Prerequisites:

Minimum Qualifications: U.S. citizen; 18 years of age; possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.; corrected vision to 20/20; a valid state driver’s license; no felony or domestic violence convictions. Applicants must meet department standards on the written exam, physical fitness test and oral board interview to be eligible to advance to the background investigation. On the written exam (100 multiple-choice questions), applicants must receive a 70% to meet standard. To meet standard on the physical fitness test, applicants must meet the 40th percentile level in each category assessed; see attached “Physical Fitness Pre-Employment Standards” sheet. This fitness test is physically strenuous. A.D.A. regulations prohibit us from asking applicants whether you are physically able to participate in the physical fitness test. As such, it is your responsibility to make this determination. We recommend to applicants whose physical condition is in question that you see your personal physician prior to participating. Gym shorts and tennis shoes are recommended for the physical fitness test.

The background investigation will require you to provide complete and accurate information about your history. You should collect the information and documentation outlined below and bring it with you. Providing accurate and thorough information to your background investigator will enable him/her to complete your background check promptly. In addition, we will take an identification photograph and fingerprints at the conclusion of your pre-background interview. Information and documentation that you will be asked to supply includes:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • If applicable ~ College Transcripts ~ Military Papers

Physical Fitness Pre-Employment Standards

The Physical Fitness Assessment consists of three basic tests: One Minute Sit-up Test; One Minute Push-up Test; and the 12 Minute Walk/Run Test. The required performance to pass each test is based upon gender and age. Applicant must meet the 40th percentile level in each category assessed.

SIT-UPS

Applicant must perform sit-ups with continual movement for one minute or until muscle failure. Sit-ups are done with bent knees, with someone holding feet, with hands positioned next to the side of the head. The number of repetitions is counted.

PUSH-UPS

Applicant must perform push-ups with continual movement (in proper form) for one minute or until muscle failure. The number of repetitions is counted.

12 MINUTE WALK/RUN

Applicant must meet standards on a 12 minute walk/run. The object of this test is to walk/run as far as you can in 12 minutes (MEASURED IN MILES).

NOTE:

APPLICANT MUST MEET THE 40TH PERCENTILE ENTRY LEVEL ON EACH OF THE TEST AREAS. THESE ENTRY PHYSICAL FITNESS STANDARDS ARE ESTABLISHED BY THE WYOMING LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY FOR ANYONE ATTENDING THE PEACE OFFICER AND DETENTION OFFICER BASIC COURSES.
